Post 1

My name is Kyle Hone. I grew up in Athens, Ohio. My major is electrical engineering. After I graduate I would be interested in working for the research and development for renewable energy sources, but I'm not set on doing that. Really I would be happy working anywhere interesting or at an appealing location. My favorite activity I've been involved with at Ohio University is being part of the OU Ultimate Frisbee team. Last year we finished the season ranked in the lower 20s, coming short of making Nationals. Last year I only played as a sub, but this year I am starting on the D-line and I hope to make a much greater impact on our season.

My freshman year I took English 151. It was a course centered around fairy tales. We read many fairy tales and many different versions of fairy tales. I liked reading the different versions from different countries. Sometimes they differed slightly but had a similar message. Other times the versions were very different and had unexpected endings. Some were even dark and ended badly. Overall I liked taking this class. I also took English 152 my freshman year. Some of the class themes were psychoanalysis, postmodern literature, and feminine authors. We read several books and wrote essays about them. Two texts I remember reading were The Fall of the House of Usher and White Noise. We spent a lot of time discussing the symbolism throughout the stories and what the author was really suggesting. Overall I thought the class was interesting.

This class seems unlike both the English classes I took my freshman year. I like that this course is centered around persuasive writing and that the essays are focused about different subjects. I like the sound of the first project, writing or revising a wikipedia article, because it is something that will be posted and possibly reviewed and edited by others. The second project is the most appealing to me. Selecting a commercial to write about how it appeals to the viewer sounds like a good persuasive essay to write. At the end of this course I hope I am better at writing persuasive essays.
